August Robotics is proud to announce that it has won the ESCA 2024 Innovation Award, capping off a stellar year for our US business
Our Founder and CEO said the following of the win, “I’m excited by the win and am immensely proud of how our technology is enhancing show building and also enabling bigger and more creative show designs. The team has done an incredible job integrating customer feedback and data back into our technology, with innovations like the snake-path and our recent PX update turning floor marking into an opportunity, rather than just a chore. We’re delighted to be recognised again for our innovation and the culture of excellence we’ve created at August Robotics.”
ESCA (Exhibition Services & Contractors Association) is the leading exhibition trade association in the United States, representing more than 170+ of the largest GSCs, event organisers and vendors across the industry. This win comes on the back of our recent win of the UK-based Exhibition News Tech Innovation of the Year award earlier this year
Lionel floor marking technology is being utilised by organisers and contractors all over the world, quickly establishing itself as the industry standard for exhibition and layout marking. It has been an extraordinary rise to prominence and a testament to how the combined forces of passion and creativity can help a startup turn big ideas into tangible reality.
Innovating across the Industry
The award was predicated on numerous factors including technological advancement, ease-of-use and interoperability with other technology. We are proud of the work we’ve done to excel in all of these areas
Regarding technology integrations - we’re especially excited for the native integration EXPOCAD (the industry’s premiere event layout design tool) has developed in conjunction with our engineers. The integration means instant creation of robotic floor marking maps based on event layouts developed within EXPOCAD (and subsequent updates) - this singular layout design workflow reduces context switching and allows layout designs to be managed completely digitally
This is the first of many collaborations we’ve planned with key partners across the close-knit events industry
Accessible Advancements

Lionel may utilise some of the most advanced localization, telemetry and sensor technologies in the market but we’ve ensured that operating Lionel is as simple as possible. Lionel is operated completely via a simple tablet interface, with guided instructions and automated processes removing any guesswork
Two major product innovations that have created drastic operational improvements for our clients are: Instant Fleet Management and “Snakepath” workflow optimization
Instant Fleet management is as the name suggests, the ability for multiple Lionel robots to work together or in parallel in the same location. When our Map Server (our technology module that creates a local WiFi connection and map data to each robot) detects multiple Lionel robots in the vicinity, it will automatically divide workloads between robots as required. The algorithms used ensure each Lionel robot is marking designated areas to avoid overlap and that the time taken is approximately the same for each robot. As a result, show builders can instantly scale-up or down their floor marking speeds without any additional configuration
The recently introduced Snake path feature allows Lionel to achieve exceptional levels of interoperability with contractors who are sharing the floor in busy halls. By selecting the “snake-path” optimization, Lionel robots will complete floor markings in a specific path (eg from top to bottom, or left to right), allowing other contractors to work concurrently in an area not being marked by Lionel. Although Lionel is fitted with world-class obstacle navigation and safely operates around people, working close to people requires it to stop regularly and slows down its productivity. By moving in a staged sequence around the hall, Lionel can share the space with other contractors seamlessly and allows multi-tasking to occur without issues.
